The Connect2Scale Pitching Days were created to help angel-backed startups access new investors, prepare for follow-on funding rounds and strengthen their scaling potential across European ecosystems.
Implemented in Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, Latvia and Slovenia, the programme connected startups with business angels, venture capital investors and ecosystem partners through curated pitching sessions, hybrid showcases and facilitated networking formats.
Across the five participating countries, the Pitching Days achieved significant reach:
- 5 pitching programmes organised across Europe
- 1,492 participants engaged in pitching and networking activities
- 746 startup applications received
- 197 angel portfolio companies presented to investors
- Startups from moderate and modest innovation ecosystems represented up to 80% of applicants in individual country programmes
The programme focused on startups that had already secured angel investment and were preparing for their next stage of growth. By presenting these companies to relevant VC and angel investor audiences, Connect2Scale helped improve access to capital and strengthened cooperation between early-stage investors and venture funds.
Each partner adapted the format to its local ecosystem. Estonia showcased 67 angel-backed startups and attracted 730 participants. Lithuania received 157 applications and presented 27 portfolio companies through its Pitching Brunch and Startup Fair activities. Finland selected a TOP30 group of startups and hosted a final TOP10 pitching event as a Slush side event. Latvia engaged 547 participants and presented 42 angel portfolio companies, while Slovenia implemented a cross-border Slovenian-Austrian pitching programme, where 2 of the TOP5 startups secured funding after the event.
Key Outcomes
The outcomes show the value of connecting ecosystems across borders. Several participating startups went on to raise follow-on investments, including seed rounds, angel syndicate investments and non-dilutive financing. Reported success stories include startups raising amounts such as €554,000, €750,000, €1.6 million, €3 million, and €3.3 million in follow-on or related financing after gaining visibility through the programme.
Beyond individual funding success, the Pitching Days strengthened cross-border collaboration between business angel networks, venture capital funds and ecosystem organisations. The programme also improved dealflow processes, supported co-investment opportunities and created lasting investor-startup relationships.
Key Lessons
Key lessons from the programme highlighted the importance of clear startup selection criteria, early investor involvement, strong networking formats and structured post-event follow-up. Hybrid tools helped broaden reach, while in-person formats proved especially valuable for building trust and enabling deeper investment discussions.
